● CRAU background: When Elena arrived at Station 72, she had to deal with the double whammy of being a freshly turned vampire and new Host. She had to battle intense hunger and cravings while dealing with being telepathically connected to a few dozen other people, including sharing a more intense connection with the other five members of her Brood (particularly intense with vampire hunter Lakshmi). But after one day on the Station, she and other new Hosts were shuttled off to the planet Hyrypia, where they joined the rest of the Nest on a covert mission to keep a source of power from the mysterious intergalactic Enemy. Elena acted the part of a noble among the party, competed in a riding competition, and socialized with a number of alien representatives while trying to uncover information about the balls factions.
While on Hyrypia, Elena was reunited with Damon Salvatore, who she became romantically involved with. She became good friends with a few Nestmates, and spent the weeks on the planet learning to build mental shields, control her blood cravings, and various vampire basics like compulsion and feeding without killing. Her relationships with some of her brood and nestmates helped Elena become more accepting of her own vampirism, especially her friendships with Shiro, Prompto, and Gildor.
Shortly before arriving at The Sphere, Elena agreed to leave Hyrypia ahead of schedule and return to the Station with some of the other Hosts. She will be arriving in The Sphere a few days after returning to the Station.
● Strengths: ADD EXAMPLES
- Elena is fiercely loyal to her friends and family and will do anything to keep them safe. She's traded her freedom and life away, betrayed allies she'd made deals with, and put her own wants and needs after theirs. And it doesn't matter if she and her friends argue, she always makes an effort to reconnect and repair any damage, no matter how much it takes, and she stands by them through thick, thin, and all manner of supernatural transformations and incidents.
- She isn't the type to give up - on people or seemingly hopeless situations, especially if it involves someone she loves. She'll follow every course of action possible, even if she has to do it on her own, and she won't stop looking for new possibilities if the first options don't work.
- She's stubborn and won't take crap from anyone. She won't be bullied or told what to do, even by a powerful supernatural creature. She'll argue and fight back and dig her heels in no matter who she's up against.
● Weaknesses: REWRITE THESE FOR CANON POINT
- Elena has a tendency to make bad choices, especially in dangerous situations that involve the safety and well-being of her friends and family. She will disregard her own safety and even sacrifice her own life without a second thought if she believes it to be in the best interest of her loved ones. It's a never-ending source of tension with her and the Salvatore brothers, especially with Damon who always puts her life above all others, and those bad decisions and self-sacrificing nature usually lead to rushing in headfirst and making situations worse.
- While it is a strength that she cares deeply for people, sometimes she cares too deeply. When the people who mean the most to her die, she absolutely falls apart. Her brother Jeremy's death hits her hard and she isn't able to handle the grief, completely breaking down because of the onslaught of emotion that is only heightened in her vampire state -- she ends up burning down her house and turning off her humanity in order to keep functioning. Damon's death has a similarly traumatic impact and the only way she keeps is by having regular drug-induced hallucinations of him, which is less than healthy, and when that is no longer an option, she resorts to having her memories of being in love with him compelled away. These were extreme reactions to tremendous loss, and while she's no longer a vampire, future loss will likely be felt just as deeply.
- Guilt is another thing that Elena feels deeply. Guilt for her part in the suffering of others, for the people she killed while her humanity was turned off, for enjoying a summer of happiness while her best friend was (secretly) dead. The list goes on and on, and it can be easy for people to use that guilt against her.
